Ridge Sonlighters is an adult ministry of Ridge Assembly for those age 50 and up. Our desire is to bring people together on a weekly basis providing a Christian atmosphere for them to enjoy life together through study, fellowship, and various activities. We also desire to use the experiences, wisdom and other resources we have gained through the years to light the way to Jesus Christ for others as they look for a purpose in life. We meet each Tuesday at Ridge Assembly in the sanctuary at 10:00 AM. Each week begins with a time of worship often lead by Pastor Leovi and his musical skills. Pastor Leovi always has the words of the songs printed out for us but we seldom really need them as he picks out songs and hymns that we have sung for years, such as “Amazing Grace” and “Because He Lives”. What a joy it is to sing these old hymns! Then we continue by praying for those that are sick or just need help and we often sign cards to send to them. We have a Bible Study time each week that often follows up on the Pastoral message for the previous Sunday. Sometimes we discuss questions from the message and search the scriptures for answers while other times we listen to a relevant message that takes us deeper into God’s Word. Either way there is always time for questions and discussions. When this session ends around 11:15 to 11:30 AM the fun really starts. We just sit around and visit for a few minutes, renewing old friendships and meeting new people and sharing life together.
Once a month we plan a special activity such as visiting Downtown Disney, boating on Lake Toho, visiting Southeastern University, the Wycliffe Bible translators, the Strawberry Festival, the Red Barn, or Lake Eva. Each month we plan a pitch-in at the church when we just spend time in fellowship and enjoying each other’s delicious home-cooked foods. We alter the week we do this so we can celebrate times like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day together. The other weeks we pick out a special place to eat together, like Sonny’s, Cracker Barrel, CiCi’s, Perkins, or a long list of favorite restaurants, and gather there for our lunch. Tell us your favorite place and we will try to arrange a week there.
We are always looking for additional activities or places to go and especially ways to serve God with the many blessings He has provided us. If you are a full-time resident, down for the winter, just visiting for the week, regular member or looking for a place to have fun and fellowship together, please come join us on Tuesday or call Ray at 863-221-8287 for more information.
